Thanks again to everyone who joined me in getting a free mix / master.
I had some great tunes to work with of various styles which was a lot of fun.
I have now moved all my mixing and mastering services over to http://www.mix2master.co.uk
Nothing has changed in terms of pricing it’s affordable and staying that way.
If anyone would like to visit or share the website please do 🙂
I look forward to working with more musicians in the future…for now thanks!
This is a short example video of a mix that was mixed into a compressor at the very start of the session.
I love to mix this way to keep everything in check level-wise during mixing.
This shows how the mix falls apart when it is turned off and the importance of the compressors on the channel inserts and the important mixbus.
Try this next time you mix. Strap a compressor with a ratio of 2:1 with a fast attack and release then proceed to mix. See if you like it or not.
Yup another mix just out of my DAW.
This is a Power Metal effort from Johnny Lokke.
All song rights go to JohnnyLokkeBand Support them here: www.johnnylokkeband.com/
Even in my spare time I like to mix songs. I mix a lot, all genres and I find it to be relaxing, challenging and fun.
My latest mix is up here:
Not a song recorded by myself.
All credit for this song go to the band ‘We Fell From The Sky’.

After changing the blogs name several times (and having some silly ones) I have finally decided!
Studio insider is the name and it will be set in stone from here on in. Everything I do on here will be mainly focused on home studio stuff so it made sense to me.
Now for more blogging activities!
OK, so this is just a shameless plug for my band…or is it?
I tracked, mixed and mastered this whole track myself in my home studio.
Bear in mind when listening to this video I had very limited resources.
My studio consisted of the following:
- Compaq CQ71 laptop – 3GB RAM, DualCore Pentium CPU 2.4Ghz
- Behringer C1 Large Diaphram Condenser Mic
- Line6 Toneport UX-1
- Some cheap Skullcandy closed headphones (for Mixing and Mastering)
- Reaper DAW
That’s it! Yes really that’s it.
A handful of free VST plugins but nothing more than above.
Granted the track isn’t amazing by any standard but I think I did a great job with what I had. What do you think?
I’m in the process of revamping my home studio setup.
Providing I stick with my list of specific equipment I am planning to buy I will be replacing the following bit’s of gear and as I go along reviewing / demoing each piece of equipment.
- Audio Interface – Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6
- Studio Monitors – Edifier 1900TII
- Reference Monitors – Edifier 1600T
- Laptop – ASUS X501A – I3 Processor 2.2Ghz / 4GB RAM / 320GB Hard Disk
- Microphone Preamp – Behringer MIMIC MIC800 Modelling Preamp
This blog will probably be very busy with studio updates most of which I hope will be useful.
I’ll cover all the gears features and do some videos of them in use. I’m aiming for a fairly budget concious studio that anyone can afford to build that can provide great results.
Should be fun!
